Introduction
The editors of The Economist in its early yesaars (1843-1860) have been:
- James Wilson (1805-1860) 1843–1857 (Herbert Spencer was sub-editor from 1848 to 1853)
- Richard Holt Hutton (1805-1860) 1857–1861
- Walter Bagehot (1826-1877) 1861–1877
