Editor’s Note
This is an updated version of the collection of tracts and letters by Trenchard and Gordon called The English Libertarian Heritage. From the Writings of John Trenchard and Thomas Gordon in The Independent Whig and Cato's Letters. Edited By David L. Jacobson (Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill, 1965). It contained his introduction, 7 essays from The Independent Whig and 35 from Cato's Letters, some of which were abbreviated. My collection is larger, contains the full essay or letter, has the original page numbering, and has the citation tool. It contains 64 essays in total: 5 miscellaneous essays; 15 essays from The Independent Whig (1720-21); and 44 essays from Cato's Letters (1720-23).
